Allied health support
makes a difference

Dietitians, psychologists and exercise physiologists all play a role in your care and your long-term health. While it's not compulsory, it is highly recommended for best results.

Dietitians

Dietitians are a vital part of your weight loss journey. We recommend  having at least one session prior to weight loss surgery, and seeking  continued care post-op for guidance on how to get the most out of your  surgery.

Getting your nutrition right is a big part of a good outcome. Our recommended dietitians will work with you before surgery to plan meals, answer questions, and help you set realistic goals. After surgery, they’ll support you with practical advice for eating, shopping, and staying healthy for the long run.

Psychology and emotional support

A psychologist, particularly one who specialises in bariatric patients, can be extremely beneficial in helping you to develop a healthier relationship with food,  manage stress and release trauma, leading to a higher success rate for your weight loss surgery. If you currently see a psychologist, we suggest maintaining your connection with them and seeking regular appointments, both in the lead-up to surgery and after surgery ongoingly.

Talk to your GP about a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral to a psychologist as you’re eligible to receive a Medicare rebate of around $96 per session for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year. If you have private health insurance, check your policy to see if it covers psychology as you may receive a rebate on treatment. Please note that you cannot claim both the Medicare rebate and private health insurance rebate for psychology sessions.

We can highly recommend the services of experienced psychologist, Rachel Williams. You can learn more about what she offers in the link below.

Exercise Physiologist

After working in the fitness industry for over 15 years, Johann has helped many clients achieve their weight loss goals and lead a healthier lifestyle through exercise. As he became more interested in supporting people who have undergone bariatric surgery, he realised that the typical recovery phase only focused on changing your diet. However, through experience and extensive research, he discovered that the combination of correct exercise with a healthy diet can make a huge difference to your end weight loss result.

In consultation with bariatric surgeons, Johann created a specific Bariatric Health & Fitness Course which has helped hundreds of people overcome mental and physical barriers to include regular physical activity in their daily life. After attending the course either in person on online, you will have all the knowledge to start exercising safely, effectively and at the correct intensity.
