Support for rural and
interstate patients

Living outside a big city shouldn’t mean missing out on good care. We welcome patients from all over Queensland and Australia.

We make the distance easier

Born and raised in a rural community, Dr Justin Greenslade understands from a first-hand perspective the challenges faced by patients in regional Australia in accessing high-quality surgical treatment within an acceptable timeframe and at reasonable cost. For this reason, he has positioned his general surgery practice as one of the leading service providers to patients outside of the Brisbane Metropolitan area.

Our clinic prioritises exceptional care and accessibility to patients who do not have access to services such as obesity surgery, reflux surgery and hernia repair, as well as gallbladder surgery and other general surgical procedures.

Your Journey

Travelling to and from Brisbane for appointments can be costly and time-consuming, so we’ve embraced Telehealth to keep travel to a minimum. Most regional patients only need to make one trip to Brisbane or the Gold Coast for their hospital admission. Our team helps with planning, paperwork and timing, so you can focus on your health.

Financial help is available too. The government’s Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme offers support towards flights and accommodation. If you’re using your superannuation to pay for surgery, you can also apply for extra funds to cover travel costs. Some private health insurance policies cover a portion of travel and accommodation if treatment isn’t available locally - check your policy for details.

Telehealth appointments

Telehealth appointments mean you can speak with Dr Greenslade and the team from the comfort of your home, using video or phone. These calls cover everything from your first consult to follow-up care and answering any questions along the way. It’s a straightforward process.

Hospital admission

Dr Greenslade operates at Greenslopes Private Hospital and Gold Coast Private Hospital. Your admission is generally the same day as surgery and most patients require a 2-night stay in hospital. If you are discharged after just one night, we suggest remaining in town for another night before heading home, especially if you are flying as airlines have travel restrictions in place for patients who have undergone abdominal surgery within 72hrs of flying.

Recovery

You will not be allowed to drive for a week following surgery and you are not to lift anything over 10kg for the first 4 weeks after surgery. You will be on a fluid diet for the first two weeks, gradually progressing back onto solid food over 6 weeks.  Fatigue is common and is to be expected for about the first 6 weeks post-op as your body heals and adjusts. These restrictions will need to be factored in when planning your surgery to ensure a smooth recovery.

Unlimited follow-up via telehealth

Providing you have a valid referral, Dr Greenslade offers unlimited bulk-billed follow-up via Telehealth. GP referrals are valid for one year from the date of your initial consultation. We will let you know when it’s time to get an updated referral. You can contact us for advice at any stage.

Making surgery possible no matter where you live

Country GP’s are referring more patients to bariatric surgeons than ever before as the benefits of weight loss surgery become increasingly apparent in reducing the risk of serious ongoing health issues, many of which are challenging to treat in a rural setting.

Talk to your GP about a referral to Dr Greenslade to discuss your options. If you don’t have regular access to GP services, you may wish to book a Telehealth appointment with an online specialist referral service such as Hola Health.
